Travelwild offers 3 sensational styles of Kangaroo Island Tours to what is arguably the best place in Australia to see Native Wildlife in the Wild. The "Rugged Style", the "Safari Style" and the "Private Charter" tours.

All tours offer plenty of action and focus on seeing loads of Native Wildlife in it's Natural Environment, you will see Kangaroos, Tammar Wallabies (extinct on Mainland Australia) & Koalas, you will walk on the beach with Australian Sea Lions at Seal Bay, see New Zealand Fur Seals at Admirals Arch & see lots of Birdlife, many tours also see Echidnas, Goannas, Glossy Black Cockatoos, Dolphins and Whales, if you are lucky you will even see Platypus.

The Rugged Style Kangaroo Island Tours carry a maximum of only 13 passengers in a small bus. The tour is a camping style tour, although you do have the option of sleeping inside. The tour uses a small stone cottage located near Vivonne Bay, the property borders the Vivonne Bay Conservation Park, has views of the ocean and is surrounded by wildlife. The cottage is very basic and rough, you can choose to sleep on a bunk bed inside, or in a swag out under the stars, there is a basic bathroom with 1 shower and toilet, and a covered BBQ area.

The 3 Day Rugged Kangaroo Island tour spends 1 night at the cottage, and the second night at a farm house on the Western end of the island. It is not possible to sleep out in a swag on the second night.

These Kangaroo Island Tours suit backpackers and independent travellers who are fit and active and have a passion for adventure and the outdoors and love camping, participants need to be able to not only participate in the adventure activities, but also join together with a small group of like minded travellers in what is an extremely social environment.

The Safari Style Kangaroo Island Tours still gets out into the wilderness and pack in plenty of adventure and great activities, however there are a couple of extra comforts for those who don't want to completely rough it, these include larger, more comfortable vehicles with forward facing seats, and a comfortable hostel with fresh linen at the end of the day.

The Safari Style Kangaroo Island tours suit backpackers and independent travellers who are fit and active and have a passion for adventure and the outdoors, but would rather stay in a hostel, again, participants need to be able to not only participate in the adventure activities, but also join together with a small group of like minded travellers in what is an extremely social environment.

Kangaroo Island Wildlife

Our Kangaroo Island Tours from Adelaide are great for viewing native Wildlife in the wild. Kangaroo Island has the distinction of being one of the best places in Australia to view native wildlife in it's natural habitat, Kangaroos, Koalas, Platypus, Tammar Wallabies, Echidnas, Glossy Black Cockatoos, Australian Sea Lions & New Zealand Fur Seals are often seen on tour.

There are a couple of reasons why wildlife is so easy to spot on Kangaroo Island;

 1. There are no natural predators of the animals on the island and there haven't been since aboriginal people ceased living on the island approximately 10,000 years ago, the wildlife over this time has adapted to a life of no predators and thus are a lot less fearful of humans, it is possible then to get very close to the animals in their natural habitat

 2. There are few non native introduced species of animal living on Kangaroo Island. Foxes and Rabbits which live on mainland Australia (after being introduced from England in the 1800's) have had a disastrous effect on native wildlife and are believed to be responsible for numerous extinctions, the foxes kill and the rabbits compete for food. This is clearly demonstrated with the survival of the Tammar Wallaby . 1000's of Tammar Wallabies thrive on Kangaroo Island where there are no Rabbits or Foxes, but just 16 km away on the mainland they have been extinct for nearly 90 years.

Each 2 Day Kangaroo Island Tour, 3 Day Kangaroo Island tour and Private Charter visit the world famous Seal Bay Conservation Park. This park is home to one of the largest colony of the highly endangered Australian Sea Lions. Not only are you able to view the Sea Lions, you are also able to walk on the beach with the Sea Lions getting within metres of them in their natural environment, it feels just like being in a David Attenborough documentary! It is a truly amazing experience.

Other destinations visited on the 2 and 3 day Kangaroo Island Adventure tours include Little Sahara - a coastal sand dune system where you can try sand boarding (like snow boarding on sand). Flinders Chase Conservation Park, which is home to Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and Cape de Coudic, Vivonne Bay on Kangaroo Islands South Coast, (Vivonne Bay has been voted as Australia's best beach) and many other unique and interesting places.
