Jim Jim Falls is an impressive 200 m high waterfall located in Kakadu National Park, in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is accessible by 4WD vehicle in the dry season from June to November and by helicopter or light plane during the wet season.

The falls range from a slight trickle at the end of the dry to a raging torrent in the wet, whether flowing or not, the falls are an impressive destination and offer an amazing nature experience.

The falls are created as water falls over the 350 metre high Kakadu escarpment and is rated as one of the most beautiful locations in Australia.


The Approach

To reach the base of the falls it is first necessary to drive for approximately 11km along a sandy 4WD track which gets you about 1km from the base of the falls.

The walk from the end of the 4WD track to the base of the falls takes you through monsoonal rainforest overhead and huge polished boulders under foot, if ever you were to experience life as an ant, this is it! Jump on a Kakadu 4WD tour to see it! Emerging from the rainforest floor into a clearing you are presented with an incredible natural and grand landscape.


The Base

At the base of the falls ia a series of large deep plunge pools with crystal clear water so clean you can happily drink it, which are surrounded by white sandy beaches! The plunge pools are a Natural habitat of the Saltwater Crocodile (the ones that eat you!), fortunatly the National Parks Service remove any crocs after each wet season before letting anyone swim.


The Top

The challenging hike to the top of the falls is steep and generally hot, but those who make the effort are exposed to an amazing experience, not only are the views fantastic, but right at the top of the falls is another large deep plunge pool which is perfect for swimming.
