Ayers Rock Tour Group
For the adventure traveller, this is the ultimate 4WD Central Australian tour. We tour Uluru (tour Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), Watarrka (Kings Canyon), Palm Valley and the West MacDonnell Ranges. But more importantly we also get to really experience the outback by truely going bush; bush camping in remote locations, driving a 4WD track through an old outback cattle station with sensational views of the Western MacDonnell Ranges and, camping at the Oak Valley Aboriginal Community.
The Oak Valley Aboriginal Community is an Aboriginal owned and operated tour business and community. They boast an olive and grape plantation, Aboriginal rock carvings and paintings and an ancient fossil field, all set in remote pristine desert country. You can learn about ancient myths and stories of the land, eat bush tucker and have a go at spear and boomerang throwing.
Day 1, Base Walk, Ayers Rock
The first part of the 5 day 4WD Ayers Rock Toru is spent driving to Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park with a few stops along the way for refreshments, try a camel ride or purchase some Aboriginal paintings or artifacts. We break for lunch at our bush camp, situated amongst desert oak trees at the base of a large sand dune within Ayers Rock Resort.
The afternoon is devoted to enjoying the sites of Ayers Rck, including a full base walk or a chance to climb if you wish. We'll also visit the Uluru Cultural Centre where you can learn about Aboriginal law / religion (Tjukurpa) .
It's then time to view the magnificent sunset on Ayers Rock with a glass of bubbly before returning to the campsite for a delicious meal, a couple of drinks and time to sit back to contemplate the day's adventure. (Meals: L, D)
Day 2, Valley of the Winds, Kata Tjuta
After watching the sunrise over Ayers Rock and Kata Tjuta from our campsite, we have breakfast and then headoff to Kata Tjuta (Olgas) for an 8km hike through the Valley of the Winds, by far the best walk offered in this amazing landscape. After lunch and a stop at the Resort for supplies, we then head to Curtin Springs Cattle Station.
Arriving in mid afternoon at Curtin Springs, there's plenty of time to get a close look at a working cattle station before we travel to Kings Creek Station for our second nights bush camp. Our campsite at Kings Creek is miles from the crowds, which is where the feeling of Wayoutback really starts to take hold. After a campfire and dinner it's time to kick back and be mesmerised by the millions of stars on display. (Meals: B, L, D)
Day 3, Rim Walk, Kings Canyon
It's a leisurely start to the day before we head off to Watarrka (Kings Canyon) for a 7km walk through the towering walls, crevices and plateaus of Watarrka. We'll visit the Amphitheatre and the Lost City as well as taking time for a cool refreshing swim in the tranquil Garden of Eden if you wish.
We are now off to 4WD across the Ernest Giles Road, where you'll be shaken but not stirred! We cross the famous Hugh River Stock Route on our way to Oak Valley Aboriginal Community where you can relax and enjoy the evening joined by one of our Aboriginal Hosts who will share a few tales over the campfire. (Meals: B, L, D)
Day 4, Oak Valley Aboriginal Community
Morning is at its best just as the sun starts to rise followed with a hearty breakfast and a fresh pot of coffee. We now spend the morning checking out the sights of Oak Valley Aboriginal Community including Rock Paintings and carvings with your Aboriginal Host. Departing the area, we head back along the Hugh River Stock Route taking a short cut across Owen Springs Reserve cutting into the West MacDonnell Ranges. Stopping at Ormiston Gorge we will hike the Ghost Gum Walk and take a swim in the beautiful surrounding rock pools. After a visit to Glen Helen later in the day we then stop at our next bush camp for another night under our magnificent southern stars! (Meals: B, L, D)
Day 5, West Mac Donnell Ranges
After breaking camp we head off around Namatjira Drive stopping at Tyler's Pass to view Gosse Bluff along the way. From this point it's on towards Hermannsburg, an Historic Lutheran Mission established in 1877. On arrival at Hermannsburg we'll visit the heritage precinct where you can explore the historic buildings and grounds+.
Departing Hermannsburg we lock in the hubs and 4WD into Palm Valley. After lunch we'll go for a hike through this picturesque valley discovering some of its hidden treasures. After our hike it's back into the vehicle and off home to Alice Springs. We'll have you back in Alice early evening and meet later for a few more quiet drinks and to farewell new found friends.
