Day 1, 3 Day Kangaroo Island Tour

Kangaroo Island, Seal Bay

Kangaroo Island, Seal Bay

Departing from Adelaide at around 6.15am the tour makes it's way to the Kangaroo Island Sealink ferry located at Cape Jervis. The drive to Cape Jervis takes around 1 1/2 hours and travels the length of the Fleurieu Peninsula which has wonderful coastal and country scenery.

Once on the island (around 10am) the tour heads for the south coast of the island towards Seal Bay Conservation Park. Seal Bay is an amazing destination where you are able to walk on the beach amoung Australian Sea Lions, this is made all the more special by the fact that Australian Sea lions are one of the rarest species of Seal in the world, it is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

After Seal Bay the next destination is Little Sahara, as it's name suggests, its a system of sand dunes which, coincidently, are perfect for sand boarding (like snowboarding on sand) which is great fun. The rest of the day is spent on the South Coast, which depending on the weather has great beaches and walks, you will also get up close Koalas at Hanson Bay.

The night is spent around the campfire at the tours exclusive bush cottage near Vivonne Bay, here you can camp out in swags or sleep under cover in the basic cottage. After cooking an Aussie BBQ feast you can join a nocturnal walk and see those animals active at night, including penguins, wallabies and possums.

  • Hanson Bay
  • Accommodation: Bush Cottage, camp out if you wish.

Day 2 is spent in Flinders Chase National Park, this is the largest park on the island and takes up the entire western end of Kangaroo Island, this is where you will visit the famous Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, and truly remarkable destination!

Flinders Chase is also home to the elusive platypus, vast tracts of untamed wilderness and heaps of other wildlife, which you should see lots of. There are a number of fantastic hikes including the Rocky River Platypus walk and the Snake Lagoon walk which takes you to a secluded beach at the mouth of the Rocky River.

Another night in the bush is spent at Flinders Chase Farm, a private property located just outside Flinders Chase National Park. Again after a hearty feed you will be able to see plenty of animals active at night. Tonight you sleep in the hostel.

Kangaroo Island, Harveys Return

One of the highlights of the 3 day Kangaroo Island tour is a visiting Kelly Hill Caves, this is an amazing cave system located on the south coast of the island near Hanson Bay. At Kelly Hill Caves you will join a ranger guided tour of the cave.

From Kelly Hill, the tour heads to explore the North Coast of Kangaroo Island, more sheltered from the Southerly winds, the north coast is more often than not a peaceful and tranquil place which offers numerous small coves and beaches to explore, Stokes Bay, Scott's Cove and Western River Cove are 3 such places.

The cool temperatures on Kangaroo Island produce a premium wine and there are a number of wineries located on the eastern end of Kangaroo Island (the Dudley Peninsula), you'll drop into one of them for taste. Also located on the Dudley Peninsula is the Eucalyptus Distillery which harvests native plants to product Eucalyptus Oil, this is a fascinating place which many rate as a highlight of their tour.

The ferry back the mainland departs at 7pm and you'll be back at your Adelaide accommodation at around 10pm, hopefully you'll be thoroughly stuffed!
