When areas of the park which appear on the standard itineraries are closed, they will be substituted with similar locations.

Many swimming areas in Kakadu National Park, including Jim Jim Falls, are only opened after extensive crocodile surveys and trapping have been completed by the National Parks. The actual opening time of Jim Jim Falls varies each year however it is normally open from June to November.

Although National Parks staff monitor and remove Salt Water Crocodiles from public swimming areas, there is a risk that some Crocodiles are missed and or Crocodiles enter the surveyed area undetected. Day 1, Wet Season Storm Brewing

Nourlangie Art Site

Nourlangie Art Site

The Wet season in Kakadu National Park is considered by many as the best time of year to visit, the weather is extremely humid however relieving heavy monsoonal rain in the afternoons is both welcome and amazing. At times huge electrical storms put on a fireworks display like nothing you have ever seen.

Kakadu is transformed into a green paradise with flowing rivers, thundering waterfalls and large wetlands full of wildlife, waterfalls which don't flow in the dry season start up and best of all there are far fewer tourists, so when you visit an area you often have it all to yourself.

There is a great variety of opening and closing of destinations during this time which is largely dependant on how much water is covering access roads, for this reason it is very difficult to publish a standard itinerary, as each tour will vary.

Day 1 of this tour normally involves a Wildlife Cruise on the Mary River or Yellow Waters, visiting Nourlangie Rock Aboriginal Art Site and Sunset at Yellow Waters. Overnight Camping in Kakadu National Park is at a permanent campsite which is both water and mosquito proof, and equipped with showers and toilets.

Day 2, Yumilmik (Motor Car Falls)

Day 2 of the 2 day Kakadu Tour takes in Gunlom Falls, Cathedral Termite Mounds, Boulder Creek & Motor Car Falls. There is heap of swimming to do which is great when the weather is muggy and hot. The Wet Season in Kakadu offers great swimming, not only is there a great deal of water, but it is so clean sweet that you can literally take a drink as you swim!

Boulder Creek and Motor Car Falls are 2 exclusive wet season destinations which do not flow during the dry season. Boulder Creek is a beautiful series of waterholes and cascading waterfalls where you can swim and relax in the cool pools which are surrounded by lush, jungle and vegetation.

Motor car falls is reached by hiking a couple of Kilometers through open savannah style country, along a creek and ultimately to the base of a high waterfall and large plunge pool, again swimming is sensational in the deep cool and crystal clear water.

Gunlom Falls, made famous by the Crocodile Dundee film of the 1980's is the magical combination of waterfall and serene plunge pool. A steep climb to the top of the waterfall provides sweeping views of the southern-most parts of Kakadu National Park while you enjoy a relaxing soak in the crystal clear pools.

Visiting the Cathedral Termite mounds is seriously interesting, these tiny creature have an amazing life and nest are populated by thousands of workers and queens who can live up to 100 years, the mounds can be up to 4 metres high, not a bad effort considering they are built by a tiny termite no bigger than 9mm long. (Comparing this to human efforts, it would equate to an 800 metre high sky scraper, currently the tallest building in the world is 509 metres in Taipei, Taiwan.)
