    Ayers Rock Tour (Uluru Tour)

This 3 day 4WD Uluru Tour (Ayers Rock Tour), explores the fascinating Outback region of Central Australia in a small group (max 9 or 14). Accommodation is bush camping in a swag around the campfire at minimal facility campgrounds. It’s a backpacker tour with plenty of adventure and group activities. Approx 70% of passengers are between 19 and 39, with 50% males and females.

The Uluru Tour visits Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas, or Mount Olga) and Watarka (Kings Canyon). As well other less well known destinations including Mt Connor (Atila), Mt Ebenezer, Stuarts Well where you can ride a Camel, Kings Creek Station and Curtin Springs.

National parks visited on this safari include Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park, which is a world heritage area, and Watarrka National Park.

Hikes include the Uluru base walk (8km), Valley of the winds walk at Kata Tjuta (6km) and the rim walk at Watarrka (6km). There is also time to climb Uluru if you wish.

Aboriginal culture is very strong in Central Australia, the Uluru Tour visits the Cultural centre in Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park, and your guide will discuss with you many aspects of this rich and varied culture, and will be able to show you sacred sites and ancient rock art.

Day 1, 3 Day 4WD Ayers Rock Tour

    Ayers Rock Base Walk

Day 1, Base Walk, Ayers Rock

After picking you up from your accommodation in Alice Springs bright and early at 5.45am, we complete ticketing on top of Anzac Hill while watching the sun rise over Alice Springs with a cup of tea or coffee.

Our journey begins heading south to Erldunda traveling through the Waterhouse and James Ranges with a stop at The Camel Farm for refreshments and a Camel ride if you're keen +. We also stop at Mt Ebenezer Roadhouse where you can view or purchase Aboriginal artifacts. On the way to Uluru (Ayers Rock) we stop to view Atila (Mount Connor), a mesa tableland and the first significant rock formation of our trip.

After a stop for lunch and our arrival at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, we head to the Cultural Centre and the opportunity to learn about the local Aboriginal law and religion (Tjukurpa) before a short guided walk at the base of Uluru. At this point you can take a full base walk or climb Uluru if you choose to do so.

It's then close to that time ... yes, the famous changing colors of Uluru at sunset, complete with sparkling wine and nibbles. It's a great time to kick back and contemplate the day and the vastness of the desert.

Day 2, 3 Day 4WD Ayers Rock Tour

    Olgas

Day 2, Valley of the Winds, Kata Tjuta

From a lookout close to our campsite we can view sunrise over Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) before rolling up the swags and heading off to Kata Tjuta for an 8km walk through the "Valley of the Winds". The Valley of the Winds walk is definitely a highlight of the tour as we get up close to the conglomerate rock formations of the many domes creating Kata Tjuta. The word "Kata Tjuta" translates to "Many Heads" and the Anangu consider the domes to represent the heads of their ancestors and consider Kata Tjuta as more sacred than Ayers Rock.

From Kata Tjuta we head back to the Resort for fuel and refreshments and head off to Kings Creek Cattle Station for our second night's bush camp, complete with bush toilet and shower. With nobody else for miles, this camp has stunning views out over the George Gill Ranges and gives you a real feel for the Outback. Dinner around the campfire makes for a very social time with another night out under the stars.

Day 3, 3 Day 4WD Ayers Rock Tour

    Kings Canyon

Day 3, Rim Walk, Kings Canyon

A leisurely start to the day before we head off to Watarrka (Kings Canyon) for a mind blowing 8km walk through the towering walls, crevices and plateaus of Watarrka. We'll visit the Amphitheatre and the Lost City plus a swim in the tranquil "Garden of Eden" if you wish.

After lunch we start making our way back to Alice Springs traveling on a typical outback dirt road and then 4x4 driving, crossing riverbeds and sand dunes. We'll drop you back at your hostel/hotel early evening and usually all meet later for a bit of a night on the town (Alice seems like the big smoke after 3 days in the bush).
