The trip was great. I'd rate it as a '9'! Phil, the tour guide was superb. He is knowledgeable, and professional yet friendly. The trip visited many great places, with lots of opportunities for light exercise - walking and swimming.

Here my feedback to the KI/Tour:

Rating: 7 (out of 10)

I liked the group size (7), there was plenty of space in the van and also the preparation of the meals were easier than in a bigger group. Overall we had enough time for the spots - only for the Seal Bay the time we had was too short. The guide, Jason, has done a good job - only the driving on the streets was sometimes a bit nervous (especially in the evening). Jason has a good knowledge of the Island and is very helpful - thanks again.

We had a great time. Bob was an excellent guide. There was a little bit of a mixup with the bus not being dropped off at KI (so we had to use a Sealink bus, which was fine). Also, a little more accuracy on the hotel pickup would have been nice. We were ready at 6:15a... but the bus didn't arrive until almost 7am.

Overall, though, we had a lot of fun.

2 Day Kangaroo Island Tour

Kangaroo Island Tour

Kangaroo Island Tour

This 2 day Kangaroo Island tour explores Kangaroo Island. 16km off the South Australian Mainland, in a small group with a maximum of 13 passengers. Accommodation is a private bush hostel or in a swag around the campfire if you want. It’s a backpacker style tour with plenty of adventure, Kangaroo Island is an amazing wilderness destination full of Native Wildlife, Great Beaches and Rugged Coastal Areas.

The Tour visits Seal Bay, Remarkable Rocks, & Flinders Chase National Park, plus plenty of places you probably haven’t heard of like, Hanson Bay & Rocky River.

National parks visited on this tour include Seal Bay Conservation Park & Flinders Chase National Park.

Hikes vary on each tour, there are a selection of walks throughout this tour chosen for their suitability to the time of year and weather conditions.

This Kangaroo Island Tour from Adelaide is the ideal option as the hassle (and cost) is taken out of organising the ferry.

The following itinerary is a guide only, the weather on Kangaroo Island can change quickly and some destinations are effected by seasonal conditions, so the guides need flexibility in running the tours, in general, all of the destinations listed will be visited, however the order in which this is done may vary.

Day 1, 2 Day Kangaroo Island Tour

Kangaroo Island, Seal Bay

Kangaroo Island, Little Sahara

Kangaroo Island, Little Sahara

The 2 day Kangaroo Island tour departs bright at early from Adelaide at around 6.15am. From Adelaide you will drive south along the Fleurieu Peninsula, which offers fantastic coastal scenery, and arrive in time to board the Kangaroo island Ferry at 9am.

The ferry takes approximately 45 minutes to cross the Backstairs Passage (the body of water between Kangaroo Island and the Mainland), and you are typically on your way around the island by 10am.

The tour heads for the south coast of the island towards Seal Bay Conservation Park. Seal Bay is an amazing destination where you are able to walk on the beach amoung Australian Sea Lions, this is made all the more special by the fact that Australian Sea lions are one of the rarest species of Seal in the world, it is truely a once in a lifetime experience.

After Seal Bay the next destination is Little Sahara, as it's name suggests, its a system of sand dunes which, coincidently, are perfect for sand boarding (like snowboarding on sand) which is great fun. The rest of the day is spent on the South Coast, which depending on the weather has great beaches and walks, you will also get up close Koalas at Hanson Bay.

The night is spent around the campfire at the tours exclusive bush cottage near Vivone Bay, or you can camp out in swags if you like. After cooking an Aussie BBQ feast you can join a nocturnal walk and see those animals active at night, including penguins, wallabies and possums.

Highlights

  • Seal Bay Conservation Park
  • Little Sahara
  • Vivonne Bay
  • Hanson Bay
  • Accommodation: Bush Cottage, camp out if you wish.
  • Walking: approx 3 km

Day 2, 2 Day Kangaroo Island Tour

Kangaroo Island, Remarkable Rocks

Kangaroo Island, Remarkable Rocks

Most of Day 2 is spent in Flinders Chase National Park, this is the largest park on the island and takes up the entire western end of Kangaroo Island. Depending on the conditions there are a number of magnificent hikes including the Rocky River Platypus walk and the Snake Lagoon walk which takes you to a wonderfull beach at the mouth of the Rocky River.

You will also visit the famous Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Flinders Chase is home to the elusive platypus, vast tracts of untamed wilderness and heaps of other wildlife, which we'll do our best to see lots of.

From Flinders Chase you will make your way back to Penneshaw and return to Adelaide at approximately 10.00pm.

Highlights

  • Flinders Chase National Park
  • Remarkable Rocks
  • Admirals Arch (New Zealand Fur Seal colony)
  • Beautiful Beaches
  • Little Sahara
  • Walking: approx 3 km
